Fangyuan Ren

I have a Master’s degree in Material Engineering (2018-2021) and a Bachelor’s degree in Composite Materials and Engineering (2014-2018). During my previous academic journey, I mainly investigated the fabrication and electromagnetic properties of carbon nanomaterials and polymer-derived ceramics, gaining extensive transferable experience in materials characterization. 

From 2022 to 2024, I worked as a Global Product Support Engineer at Applied Materials. In this role, I provided technical support for Scanning Electron Microscopes for semiconductor fabrication, troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical issues. 

My industrial and academic experiences have honed my technical skills and deepened my passion for research in materials science. I am starting my PhD at the University of Oulu in Finland in June 2024, where I will investigate Mg-carbonate cement chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Päivö Kinnunen and Dr. Hoang Nguyen. I am excited about contributing to achieving zero-CO2 cement and concrete production.
