Alejandro Fernandez-Martinez

DC5 External supervisor.

Alex Fernandez-Martinez obtained his degree in Physics at the University of Oviedo in 2005. After two years at the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL, Grenoble, France) working on projects related to the use of neutron scattering, he did his PhD at the ILL and Univ. Joseph Fourier- Grenoble I in the field of environmental geochemistry, working on the structural and surface chemistry properties of natural nanoparticles. He then spent three years as postdoctoral researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, USA), developing in situ synchrotron X-ray methods to study heterogeneous nucleation. In 2011 he got a permanent position as CNRS researcher at the Institut des Sciences de la Terre (Grenoble, France). His research group is dedicated to developing methods for in situ exploration of nanoscale properties of materials, and to exploring the processes of mineral and inorganic material formation, crucial for facilitating the transition towards a sustainable, low CO2 world.
