Hoang Nguyen

Hoang Nguyen is an Academy Research Fellow (Research Council of Finland) at Magnesia-based materials and systems team, Fibre and Particle Engineering Research Unit, University of Oulu (Finland). Hoang got his Bachelor in Materials Engineering (major in cement and ceramics materials) from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam), graduated from Doshisha University (Japan) with M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (2016), and finished his Ph.D. degree in the University of Oulu (2020) with a thesis on ettringite-based cement using steel slag. He’s also a visiting researcher in DTU (Denmark, 2019) and Empa (Switzerland, 2022). His research interests are sustainable cements, thermodynamic modelling, carbon and inorganic side stream utilization. Hoang has been supervising several Ph.D. and M.Sc. theses (7 Ph.D. projects in which 1 project as main supervisor, >8 M.Sc. and B.Sc. theses), and in 2022 he co-founded NordCem (i.e., community of cement scientists in the Nordics).
